Mid-Prairie splits RVC games

There were two very different River Valley Conference basketball games for Mid-Prairie Monday and Tuesday, although each third quarter was the worst quarter for the Golden Hawk girls.
Monday the third stanza had nary a point on the board in a 61-26 loss at West Liberty. Tuesday Northwest outscored Mid-Prairie 15-10, but the Golden Hawks won the other three quarters 11-4, 13-5 and 16-10 to win the game 50-34.
West Liberty shot 43 percent from the field and went to the foul line 23 times while Mid-Prairie shot 31.4 percent and had five free throws.
The Golden Hawks outscored the Comets 12-11 in the second to trail 25-18 at halftime.
Myah Lugar had two points for Mid-Prairie in the loss, 18 points in the win with two assists and three steals in each game. Amara Jones snagged six rebounds in each game and had a combined five assists and seven steals.
Maddie Nonnenmann had 10 points at West Liberty and nine points at home with eight rebounds in each game. Nora Pennington had nine points and five rebounds in the home win.
Phelan Hostetler registered a combined 16 points and 10 rebounds in the two games for the Hawks. Combine her blocks, two and five, for a season total of 25, which is ninth in the state, third in Class 3A, first in the RVC South.
Macy Daufeldt and Finley Hall led the Comets with 14 points apiece while Sailor Hall had 13 and seven assists.
Mid-Prairie has an overall record of 5-4, 5-3 RVC while West Liberty is 5-2, 5-1 and Northeast is 1-4, 1-3.
