ANAMOSA — Both Mid-Prairie High School soccer teams made the trip to Anamosa Tuesday and came away with victories.
The boys took a 2-0 halftime lead on the Blue Raiders and won 5-0. The Golden Hawk girls were down 2-0 but rallied for a convincing 5-2 victory. With the win, the girl Hawks have played three games in five days.
“Our defense had a few miscommunications,” girls coach Justin Barthelman said. “I think playing against a physical Solon team Monday night in the cold, made us pretty sore Tuesday.”
The Hawks only substitute two or three players a game which does not help in providing people breaks and fresh legs.
“The girls fought really hard in the end of the first half and second,” Barthelman said.
Evelyn Gerber scored on a free kick outside the 18 for Mid-Prairie’s first goal. Esther Hughes and Sophie Baker both scored two goals a piece in the second half.
The Hawk blanked the Blue Raiders with a relentless offense, taking 35 shots with 20 of them on goal. Keaton Graber spent 70 minutes in goal with no saves for Mid-Prairie.
The first two goals were scored by Yasmin Ahmed, one from the 18 on a Jack Pennington assist, the other was from an assist by Zeus Fugate.
Pennington punched in a couple of his own with an assist from Tucker Miller and a second from Ryan Jones. Jones then ended the scoring with the longest goal of the night on an assist from Owen Trimpe.
