The conference races are coming to a close in the Union area small school realm. Tuesday night was a huge night for the River Valley South race, as Mid-Prairie battled Regina Catholic in a ranked road game. Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division race, which was up in the air coming into the night of action.
No. 8 (3A) Mid-Prairie 3, No. 8 (2A) Iowa City Regina 0
The Golden Hawks won their 11th game in a row, beating rival Regina in a monster River Valley South showdown.
Mid-Prairie won each of the first two sets by the score of 25-20. The Golden Hawks had to fight to the last point, winning 28-26.
Jovi Evans and Harper Pacha each hit double digits in kills for Mid-Prairie. Evans finished with 16 kills, and Pacha collected 11.
Avery Helmuth and Jovi Evans went for 21 and 20 assists respectively. Jeorgia Evans led the team in digs, with 25.
Wapello 3, Hillcrest Academy 1
The Ravens had a shot to knock off the top dogs in the SEISC North, and Hillcrest did take an early set, but in the end, the Arrows escaped 25-19, 21-25, 25023, 25-19.
Despite the loss, Malia Yoder had a big night, going for 23 kills and 19 digs, leading the team in both. Kylee Statler finished with 10 kills. Claire Withrow dished out 38 assists and collected 15 digs, and Lydia Beachy had 15 digs.
Pekin 3, Louisa-Muscatine 1
Pekin battled past L & M in a SEISC North road game, breaking a 1-1 tie with two-straight sets to close things out.
Pekin won the opener, 25-21. Louisa-Muscatine took the second set, 26-24. Pekin ran away with the next two, taking them 25-17, 25-18.
WACO 3, Lone Tree 1
Much like the Panthers, the WACO volleyball team had to clutch up in the last two sets to take down Lone Tree.
WACO sweated out a 25-23 win in the opening set. Lone Tree won in extras in Set 2, taking it 29-27. The Warriors showed out in the next two sets, winning 25-15 and 25-20.
No. 12 (2A) West Burlington 3, New London 0
The Tigers had trouble sticking with state-ranked West Burlington. The Falcons ran past the Tigers 25-8, 25-8 and 25-9.
No. 2 (1A) Holy Trinity Catholic 3, Van Buren County 0
The Warriors gave the Crusaders a second-set sweat, but couldn’t steal one in a SEISC South home game, falling 25-12, 25-19 and 25-10. Marlee Mertens finished the night with seven kills. Keely Duncan had six. Sophia Jirak dished out 14 assists, and also led the team with 10 digs.
Albia 3, Cardinal 0
The Comets traveled west to take on Albia in a South Central Conference play. The Blue Demons held home court, winning 25-18, 25-14 and 25-14.
Colfax Mingo 3, Keota 0
The Eagles were downed in a South Iowa Cedar League road match. Colfax Mingo topped Keota 25-11, 25-15, 25-12 on the Tigershawks’ senior night.
