Mid-Prairie tops cross-country rankings

The Mid-Prairie High School boys and girls cross-coutry teams maintained the No. 7 and No. 1 spots respectivelty in the latest Class 2A cross-coutry rankings by the Iowa Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches poll released Tuesday.
The Mt. Pleasant girls stayed steady at No. 13 in Class 3A behind Abby Ryon, who moved up in the individual rankings to No. 4.
The Pekin boys team fell two spots to No. 9 and the girls maintained their position at No. 7.
The Mid-Prairie girls are keeping their eye on the Williamsburg team which is rated No. 2. The two teams ran Monday at Solon and Williamsburg finished 19 points behind the Golden Hawks. Bettendorf, which is ranked 11th in Class 4A, won the meet.
Mid-Prairie's Mitzi Evans and Abbagail Evans are both in the individual rankings at 13 and 16 respectively.
Williamsburg has four girls ranked between 10 and 19.
Mid-Prairie's Chandler Herschberger, who placed 18th at the Solon meet among all larger schools, was ranked 27th.
Mid-Prairie finished 16 points behind Williamsburg in the boys race at Solon, but were without one of their top runners.
'It's our first time racing against Williamsburg this season,” Hershberger said. 'Most likely, we will go there for district. We definitely need to step up without him because we don't have a lot of depth.”
In 1A Pekin's Colten Glosser is No. 8 and teammate Brady Millikin is No. 16.
