RIVERSIDE - Mid-Prairie defeated Highland 175-222 on a soggy Blue Top Golf Course Thursday.
Monte Slabaugh lead the Golden Hawks, shooting a 42 to earn meet medalist. He played a steady round with two pars and a birdie 3 on the par-4 fifth hole. Ryan Smit was runner-up medalist, one stroke back with a 43. His round included four pars with three in a row to end his round. Noah Schlabaugh was third with a 44. Dominic McCain rounded out the scoring with a 46.
Zane Eagle led Highland with a 52. Jack Baker posted a 53 and Dan Burton a 58. Brogan Carolan rounded out the Huskies' scoring with a 59.
'I was pleased with how we played,” Mid-Prairie coach Kelby Bender said. 'The course was very wet and soggy which made it play longer. I was hoping to be around 180, so coming in 5 stokes lower was great. Blue Top is not an easy course, especially on the greens and with all the bunkers. For the most part, we handled them well. To shoot the score we did with 10 three putts shows we hit the ball well tee to green. It was a great test and learning experience for us before our River Valley Conference meet there Tuesday. If we can improve our putting we can be competitive. We will have one more opportunity to play the course before conference when we play Durant at Blue Top Monday.”
