It was a big night for the Golden Hawk cross-coutnry teams as they faced some of the top competition in the state on Monday night.
Junior Golden Hawk Anna Hostetler claimed first place in the meet, running a 19:21, while her sister, freshman Marie Hostetler, took second place with a 19:49.
Those top finishes helped the Golden Hawks to a third-place team finish, finishing behind only North Scott (Eldridge) and Mount Vernon-Lisbon.
Freshman Abbagail Evans finished the meet in 22:41 for 21st place, while senior Greta Schmidt took 36th place with a time of 32:48.
Abby Tornow took 37th with a 23: 55 to round out the varsity scoring, while Kessa Jones finished the meet in 47th with a 24:49.
?Anna and Marie Hostetler took gold and silver medal honors for the fourth-straight race,? Mid-Prairie assistant coach Aaron Fleming said. ?The girls had some strong races tonight, with most of the girls improving their times from the last meet. Abbagail Evans ran 46 seconds faster than last meet to tie her personal record, and Abby Tornow and Greta Schmidt were 95 and 40 seconds faster, respectively.?
On the boys? side of the meet, Peyton Miller took second place with a 17:20, while Floyd Evans took fifth with a 17:31.
Zach Pettit took 18th place for the Hawks, while finishing in 18:29, and Quinn Schmidt (24th, 18:56) and Andrew Schwartz (32nd, 19:24) rounded out the varsity scoring.
Brent Foster took 37th with a 19:37, while Marshal Teets finished in 42nd with a time of 19:46 to round out the varsity squad.
Those finishes were good enough to put Mid-Prairie in second place as a team, trailing only Mount Vernon-Lisbon in the meet.
?The boys took on the tough job of facing Mount Vernon-Lisbon, class 3A?s defending champion and current No. 1 ranked team,? Fleming said. ?MVL showed why they?re a top-ranked team and they gave our boys something to aspire to, but we were very pleased with the way our boys responded and competed. Both Peyton Miller and Floyd Evans beat all but one of MVL?s runners en route to running 19- and 39- second season-best times, respectively.?
