Middle school girls’ track teams host home meet

The Mt. Pleasant middle school girls' track and field teams began their 2019 schedule on Tuesday with a home meet at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex. The seventh-grade squad finished first place with 109 points, and the eighth-graders came in fifth.
The seventh-graders were led by a two-win day from both Teyanna Lane and Josie Gilmore. Lane swept the sprints, taking the 100-meter dash in 14.45 seconds, and the 200-meter dash in 30.67 seconds. Josie Gilmore won the 200-meter hurdles in 33.98 seconds, and took the high jump with a leap of 4-04.
The 4X100 team picked up the Panther seventh-graders' lone relay win. The squad of Baily Jalas, Leslie Lopez, Ella Gideon and Gilmore finished the relay in 1:00.71.
Gilmore took second in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 19.64 seconds. Elsie Lange was second in the 800, crossing in 2:59.43. Lane took second in the long jump with a leap of 13-00, and Jolynn Keomanivong was second in the discus, throwing a 51-07.50.
There was one third-place team from the seventh-graders. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Alayna Dufour, Aubrey Claiborne, Addison Bentler and Rellana Van Deuren finished the race in 1:34.01.
The eighth-graders had two wins on the night. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Jayden Housh, Jordan Crooks, Eva Rounceville and Allie Westercamp took first, as did Kylee Coleman in the discus throw.
The seventh-graders had four third-place finishers. Kali Barnett took third in the 400-meter dash. Housh took bronze in the 100-meter hurdles. Jema Settles took third in the discus, and the 4X400 team of Tristan Shull, Kate Schimmelpfennig, Housh and Makayla Dietzenback took third as well.
