Eighth-grade team wins seven of nine games
BURLINGTON ? The Fairfield eighth-grade volleyball team traveled to Burlington Monday for matches against James Madison Middle School.
The ?A? team played strong but ended up losing in three games with scores of 10-21, 21-12 and 11-15. The ?B? team won both games, defeating James Madison 21-10, 21-16. Kelsey Roberts and Emma Kuehl had five and four assists, respectively. Mackenzi Harwood scored on six kills.
The ?C? team won 21-16, 21-9, while the ?D? team finished off James Madison 21-7, 21-6. Delaney Neil tallied 15 aces on just 17 serves, and Mikaela Amendt led the defensive effort with 30 digs.
Eighth-graders sweep Keokuk
KEOKUK ? The eighth-grade volleyball team also posted flawless matches vs. Keokuk last Thursday, winning every game they played.
The closest game of the night would be the first one, but Fairfield?s ?A? team prevailed 22-20 before breezing to a 21-7 second-game win. The ?B? team also won with scores of 21-13 and 21-7. Mackenzie Flattery tallied 76 passes and had nine kills. Alli Deao had seven kills, while Emma Kuehl, Gabrielle Kuehl and Kelsey Roberts had three kills apiece.
The ?C? team beat Keokuk 21-10, 21-15, and the ?D? team won 21-15, 21-9. In the two matches, Amendt had 25 successful serves and Sheridan Nye added 21. Neil and Natalie Jones each slammed down three kills.
Next up for the eighth-graders is a home matchup with rival Mount Pleasant Thursday.
Seventh-graders take on Aldo Leopold
The seventh-grade volleyball team played tough at home against Burlington Aldo Leopold on Monday, splitting every match but one.
The ?A? team won 21-18, 17-21, 15-12. Sara Swanson led the team in setting and had seven aces. Haley Beard tallied five kills, while Paige Buch contributed with 23 defensive passes and digs.
Seven aces from both Brynna Bowman and Brooke McLain helped the ?B? team to a 15-21, 21-7 split. Jenna Crile led the team in defensive passing and attacks.
The ?C? team also split with scores of 7-15, 15-13. Caytlyn Nystrom led on defense to accompany Lauren Ward?s great serving.
The ?D? team split its two games 11-15, 15-13. Dayna Price served perfectly with five aces, while Maddie Rauscher lead the team defensively.
