The Washington middle school wrestling team competed in a pair of meets over the past two weeks, coming away with many positive results.
On Dec. 8 at Mt. Pleasant, the Demons took on the Panthers, Keokuk and Ottumwa and left with a combined 13-12 record.
Ten of those 13 victories came by pin falls with Joseph LaBelle and Chris Meserole each earning two pins on the day.
Brody Wagner and Joseph Schrock joined LaBelle and Meserole in going 2-0 on the night, with Matt Collett earning a pair of victories as well.
Justin Simmering, Ayden Frazer and Bryan Martin also picked up a win each for the Demons.
In the most recent meet, a home contest that featured Mid-Prairie, Louisa-Muscatine, Burlington, Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant, the Demons came away with an 11-19 record with eight wins coming by pin fall.
?We did not wrestle as focused as I would like; with it being our first home meet it is hard for the kids to get ready and think about wrestling,? WMS coach Shawn Ellingson said. ?We will fix that and move on. Once on the mat, many of our guys wrestled tough and are starting to incorporate moves from the practice room into their matches; that is a good sign.?
Simmering, Dillan Sanders and Meserole each went 2-0 on the night, with the other wins coming from Collett, Schrock, Nathan Beenblossom, Brandon Dickel, Frazer and Martin.
The Demons will be off until Jan. 12 when they travel to Fairfield, before hosting their second meet on Jan. 19.
