Washington volleyball’s Leighton Messinger added another milestone to an already decorated career for the Demons. The senior surpassed 1,000 kills in Washington’s victory over Burlington on Tuesday.
Messinger racked up 24 kills in Washington 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 22-20, 26-20) victory over the Grayhounds, which also helped the Demons stay perfect at 4-0 in Southeast Conference play. Messigner is up to 193 kills this season, and her career tally currently stands at 1,015.
A standout outside hitter, Messinger has led Washington in kills every season since joining as a freshman in 2022. As a sophomore, she led Washington to a 7-3 mark in SEC play with 343 kills, which ranked No. 13 among players in Class 3A that season and earned her a spot on the All-SEC first team.
Messinger followed that up by logging 285 kills as a junior. Her performances helped Washington win its first SEC Tournament title in school history, and earned Messinger SEC Player of the Year and first-team all-conference honors.
Washington will play its final SEC regular season game against Fort Madison at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. The game will be streamed live on the Southeast Iowa Live YouTube and Facebook pages.
