Milestone marker as Manning marches past 1,500 points

KEOSAUQUA - Isabel Manning surpassed 1,500 career points in Tuesday's Southeast Iowa Super Conference non-divisional girls basketball win over Wapello.
The Van Buren County senior scored 23 points in a 55-38 victory to bring her career total to 1,513. She has 573 points this season, closing in on Van Buren's Abby Roe's junior season total of 596 in 1995.
The Warriors led 14-5 after one quarter and 25-13 at halftime. Wapello scored a game-high 18 points in the third to cut the Warriors' advantage to 38-31 after three quarters, but Van Buren hit the gas pedal in the final eight minutes.
Along with her 23 points, Manning finished the night with 16 rebounds and three steals. Zoe Best scored 14 points, and Ella Jirak had 11 points and four assists to give the Warriors three double-digit scorers. Kadence Nusbaum scored three points. Annabell Cormier and Shea Scott had two apiece.
Wittrock landslide powers Pekin
PACKWOOD - Sophie Wittrock helped the Panthers outlast the Lions in a home North Division game.
Wittrock had eight steals, three rebounds and three assists to go with her 17 points as Pekin pulled away from a 37-32 halftime score to win 65-50 over Lone Tree.
Kaylee Peiffer totaled 10 points, Emma Phillips 11 and Kerrigan Pope 12 for Pekin. Erika Coleman had seven rebounds and hit a pair of threes.
Eagles clipped
THORNBURG - Keota lost to the Tri-County Trojans in a South Iowa Cedar League game 45-27.
Nicole Clarahan was Keota's bright spot with 11 rebounds.
Sky Weber scored nine and Bailey Sieren seven.
'We really struggled and could not make shots,” KHS head coach Jeff Sprouse said. 'We did not respond well to the physical game and got in foul trouble.”
Huskies downed by Falcons
LETTS - Highland's Abbi Stransky scored 12 points in the 62-34 North loss to Louisa-Muscatine. Kayla Cerny and Jenna Sands combined for nine Huskies points.
Golden Hawks fly
CAMANCHE - It was a 56-34 River Valley Conference win for the Golden Hawks Monday when Mid-Prairie traveled to Camanche.
Both teams scored 12 points in the second quarter but Mid-Prairie had a 17-6 lead after the first quarter and 45-24 after the third stanza.
WACO drops road game
DONNELLSON - The WACO girls couldn't quite keep up with a tough Central Lee squad Monday, falling 65-53 in a South Division game.
Central Lee led 19-11 after one quarter, 40-25 at halftime and 53-34 after three quarters. Hawks standout Mya Mershmann scored 31 points.
Morgan Graber led WACO with 17 points in the loss. Ellah Kissell had 15 points. Molly McLaughlin scored 11. Aubri Garnsey had six, and both Grace Cobleand Lela-Ann Fort finished with two.
Comets lose halftime lead
ELDON - The Cardinal girls basketball team fell victim to an Albia comeback Monday to lose a nonconference home game 52-48.
The Comets held a 34-24 lead against the Lady Dees at halftime. Albia held the Comets to just 14 points over the final two quarters.
