Miller extends RBI record

RIVERSIDE - Abbie Miller extended her Highland High School record for runs batted in during a softball season when she plated two runs during the Huskies' 4-2 victory Tuesday over the nonconference visitors from Sigourney.
Miller is fifth in Class 2A in runs batted in with 47. She broke the previous Highland record of 43 set by Bailey Walsh during the huskies' run to the state tournament in 2014.
'The record means a lot to me,” Miller said after the win over Mediapolis when she broke the record. 'But I couldn't do it by myself. I need my teammates.” She also owns the career home run record and has tied the season home run record. she hit four last year and four so far this year. She hit four as a sophomore and one as a freshman.
Megan Hoenig improved her season record in the Huskies' circle to 16-4 with a seven-hit, one-walk, two-strikeout complete game against Sigourney. She has a 1.81 earned run average with 96 strikeouts in 120 innings and seven walks.
Dani Laughlin went 3 for 3 against Sigourney. Sarah Schneider was 2 for 3 with a double.
Highland (17-8) starts the postseason Wednesday at home against Van Buren (14-11).
