Two games in two days meant two wins and a tied school record for the Hillcrest soccer team. Friday was a 2-0 road win at Wapello, and Saturday saw Noah Miller in a zone for a 7-1 trouncing of Tipton at home.
Hillcrest erased the 0 on the Wapello scoreboard with 4 minutes left in the first half when John Hughes gathered a pass from Will Kolck, took one touch and knocked the ball into the net.
The second half remained scoreless until Hillcrest’s pressure created the second goal with less than a minute left. Dominic Bouse sent a cross to Will Kolck who turned the ball and sent it into the corner of the goal.
Aiden Krabill recorded 11 saves in goal, then stopped four more shots against Tipton.
Noah Miller had a goal nullified Friday on an offside call, but Tipton couldn’t nullify him Saturday as he scored four goals and added an assist to lead the Ravens past the Tigers in a steady rain.
Miller’s first tally was created when John Hughes hit him on a through ball, which he coolly put by the keeper 12 minutes in.
Minutes later, Andrew Starr sent a shot into the box where it redirected off the leg of a Tipton defender and into the goal.
In the last minutes of the half, Miller took control of the ball, beat two defenders, then sent the orb into the far corner of the net.
The second half opened in a flurry as Miller slid a pass to Hughes, who deftly one touched his shot by a sliding goal keeper.
A minute later, Tipton earned a corner kick and caught the Ravens still marking up to make the score 4-1.
The Ravens answered with Miller completing his hat trick. Starr assisted. Miller matched the school record by controlling the ball in midfield, then shooting from outside the 18 for tally No. 4 and a 6-1 score. Eli Ours, the seventh and last previous Raven to hit four goals in a match, finished the scoring on an assist from Hughes.
Hillcrest (4-3 overall) played at Central Lee Monday, Tuesday at Danville.
