Members of the MIU running club recently won medals in the annual Lacey Keosauqua State Park 5- and 10-kilometer runs, including three first-place finishes and one second place.
In sunny 45-degree weather, Maharishi International University student Tesfamichael Adugna won the 10k race in a time of 41:53 and won both the overall medal and first place in the 20-34 age group. Also, in the women’s division in the 10k, Evelyn Ellinghaus won first place in the 50-64 age group in a time of 1:11:13.
In the 5k race, MIU club president Crystal McCay, in her first-ever race, got second place in the women’s 20-34 division in a time of 34:17. Club coach Peter Mannisi won first place in the over-65 men’s division in a time of 27:29.
“Everyone ran well on a very challenging hilly course,” coach Mannisi said. “They did a really good job. This was the first official MIU running club event in three years.”
Winning awards in the annual Keosauqua races were Tesfamichael Adugna, coach Peter Mannisi, Evelyn Ellinghaus, and Crystal McCay. (Submitted)
