Mid-Prairie falls by tiebreaker
Another day and another close meet for the Mid-Prairie boys? golf team.
Monday proved to be another tight River Valley Conference dual for the Golden Hawks at the Kalona Golf Course, but they fell just short of knocking off Wilton.
Mid-Prairie and Wilton battled to a tie at 191 after nine holes, and based on the fifth-score tiebreaker, the Beavers were awarded the dual win.
?I was very pleased with how our golfers competed today in the wind,? Mid-Prairie boys? golf head coach Kelby Bender said. ?Wilton is a good team with a State qualifying golfer in their lineup who was the meet medalist with a 42. To end up in a tie shows how hard our golfers are working and the improvement they are making.?
Michael Calahan finished the day with a 43, carding two birdies to the low Mid-Prairie score.
Calahan?s number fell just one short of Wilton?s Jake Fratke, who won meet medalist honors with a 42.
Mid-Prairie followed up Calahan?s number with Duncan McCain?s 47 and Ryan Slaubaugh?s 50, while Collin Gingerich rounded out the scoring with a 51.
Seth Mann shot a 57 for the Hawks, while Zach Owens recorded a 59.
In the JV competition, Mid-Prairie defeated Wilton?s JV squad 232-257, with the Hawks? Sam Bailey claiming JV medalist honors with a 52.
The boys will be back in action on Tuesday when they face Columbus and Washington at the Kalona Golf Club.

The Iowa Mennonite boys? golf team traveled to face Mediapolis on Monday afternoon, and lost a close meet to the Bulldogs.
Four balanced scores led to IMS carding a nine-hole score of 226 as a team, but Mediapolis? meet medalist Charles Jahn shot a 38 to help the Bulldogs to a team score of 223.
Roman Slabach led the way for IMS, earning runner-up honors with a 54 on the day, followed by Trevor Leyden?s 55.
