BURLINGTON — After a dominant win over Oskaloosa to start the season, the Fairfield boys basketball team has now lost five straight after a 55-52 defeat at Burlington in a Southeast Conference game on Friday night.
After Friday’s nail-biter, the Trojan boys have now lost four games by 11 points or less and three by five points or less, as they continue to have rough luck down the stretch of close games.
After trailing 19-11 at the end of the first quarter, Fairfield rallied back to tie the game at 26-26 at halftime. After three, the game was knotted up again at 41-41.
Fairfield held a 50-49 lead and had the ball with one minute left, but the Trojans turned the ball over. On the other end, Burlington’s Nate Spear hit the go-ahead 3-pointer, and the Grayhounds never relinquished the lead.
It was Fairfield’s third conference loss of the year, all of which have come on the road.
The Trojans are now 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the SEC. They will host Keokuk (2-3, 0-3) on Monday.
