PACKWOOD ? A run of the mill 3-1 Pekin victory was followed up by a wild 22-15 explosion in the nightcap as the Panthers picked up two wins vs. Highland at home Monday night.
?We went from playing a baseball game to a football game ? it was quite the turn of events,? said Pekin head coach Jeff Eeling.
Pekin drew a whopping 13 walks and scored 22 earned runs on 13 hits led by seven RBIs from Zach Mosbey ? four of which came on a grand slam home run. Trenton Northup also helped out the offense with four RBIs of his own in the game.
As much as Pekin was scoring, an 11-run fifth inning from Highland put them in the lead before the Panthers tied it up right away in the bottom half. Pekin then scored nine more in the sixth to secure the victory.
?I?m proud of the kids and the way they responded to that big inning from Highland. We had kind of put it on cruise control with the lead, but they came back and put 11 on us and we added nine more in the sixth,? Eeling said.
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, Cody Millikin earned a win for Pekin in the game one pitcher?s duel throwing seven strong innings. Millikin allowed just two hits and one run while fanning 11 Highland batters.
With no rest for the weary, Pekin is scheduled to play another doubleheader tonight against third-ranked IMS.
