MT. PLEASANT — The Southeast Conference girls golf field was chasing Keokuk all year long, and that trend stayed true on Wednesday in Mt. Pleasant.
The Chiefs won the SEC golf tournament in dominating fashion, putting all four scorers in the Top-5. Fort Madison was second, behind individual champion Natalie Wright, who won the meet in a four-girl playoff.
The Union area teams were behind Lee County, and Mt. Pleasant was the top team on the list. The Panthers battled to a third-place finish, shooting 419, which was 24 shots ahead of second-place Fairfield.
The Panthers were led by a 95 from Sophia Walderbach, who shot a 46 on her first nine and a 49 on the back end. Ashlynn Beachaump was just seven strokes behind her, at 102.
Izzy Zihlman finished the meet at 104, and Kaylen Hunold ended at 118 to become the Panthers’ next two scorers. Vivian Cornell and Olivia McCormick shot 120 and 128 respectively.
Fairfield’s Ella Bentler shot a 102 on the day, going 50 on the front and 52 on the back. Olivia Hollander finished at 109. Vanessa Kessel shot a 113, and Aries Wagner finished at 119.
Washington was extremely shorthanded on the day, battling with just two golfers. Sydney Stouder finished at 105, and Elizabeth Hora ended up at 107.
The conference also announced it’s All-SEC team, which is 10 golfers. Bentler, Walderbach and Beachaump were all named to the team, getting the sixth, seventh and eighth spots respectively.
