The Mt. Pleasant boys' soccer team suffered a heartbreaker on Tuesday, April 5 in its first game of the season, a 2-1, double overtime loss to Centerville.
Mt. Pleasant scored first on a goal from Austin Foster at the 17:50 mark in the first half before Centerville tied the game at 1-1 at 10:02 in the second half on a free kick. Centerville won the game on a goal with two minutes to play in the second overtime.
Five new starters, Jacob Petrezelka, Nick Lyon, JP Keomala, Ryan Schenk and goal keeper Michael Alderson had held Centerville scoreless for 70 minutes during the game.
"I was a little nervous at the start of the game with a brand new defense. Overall, I felt the team played a great first game," said coach Neil Schmitz. "This team will continue to improve and will look to get their first win of the season at Danville/New London Friday night."
Mt. Pleasant had 17 total shots against Centerville, with 11 on goal. Alderson had 14 saves.
