BURLINGTON - Both Mt. Pleasant and Winfield-Mt. Union took part in the Nike Invitational in Burlington on Tuesday, and it was a nice day for both teams. Mt. Pleasant kept their winning-streak alive with a first-place finish and Winfield-Mt. Union placed fourth.
Mt. Pleasant's win came by 21 strokes. The Panthers finished with a score of 326, defeating Oskaloosa, who shot 347 for second. Van Buren took third place, shooting a 358, and W-MU was right behind them, tying with West Burlington-Notre Dame with a stroke count of 362.
Other teams competing in the tournament were Ft. Madison (374), Central Lee (415) and Danville, who did not score due to only having two golfers.
Mt. pleasant had three of the top six players in the tournament, including second-place Trace White, who led the team to victory with a 75. White shot a 37 on the front nine and a 38 on the back.
Jake Moffett and Bailey Shelledy were part of a three-way tie for fourth, finishing at 81 strokes apiece. Both Moffett and Shelledy shot a 38 on the front nine and a 43 on the back.
Rhett Zeglen was the fourth scorer for Mt. Pleasant, shooting an 89. He finished the front nine at 45, and shot a 44 ont he back nine. Brevin Wilson shot a 93, going 46 on the front and 47 on the back, and Reece Kempker finished at 117, going 62 and 55.
Jarod Kadel shot an 82 for W-MU, placing him seventh overall. He shot a 41 on the front nine and matched that on the back nine with another 41.
Noah Freemansnuck into the top 10, shooting a 41 on the front and 46 on the back to tie for 10th at 87. Nolan Ross finished at 92 on the day, shooting a 43 on the front and a 49 on the back.
Jacob Kongable was the fourth W-Mu scorer, with a 101. He shot a 45 on the front nine and a 56 on the back. Graham Hagge finished at 102, shooting 43 and 59, and Brady Loyd finished at 111, shooting a 57 front and 54 back.
