The Mt. Pleasant boys' tennis team was looking good in Thursday's meet with Fairfield. The Panthers were up 4-1, just one win away from clinching the win, when it started to poor down rain at East Lake, which forced the teams to postpone.
Corbin Broeker won the No. 1 singles match, taking down Fairfield's A.J. Greiner 8-1. Jaxon Hoyle took the No. 2 singles match 8-6 over Noel Peterson. Donny Arledge grinded out a 9-7 win over Will Sheppard, anc Jack Schimmelpfennig took the No. 5 match 8-5.
David Nguyen had the only singles loss for Mt. Pleasant. He lost a nail-biter, 9-7, in the No. 4 match against Blake Holden.
Clayton Henriksen was just a couple of points away from completing a sweep in the No. 6 match. He led Michael Holt 6-0, and he was leading 30-15 in what could have been the winning point.
Broeker and Hoyle had begun a doubles match against Greiner and Sheppard, and are trailing 2-1, with a 40-15 lead on the next point.
The Panthers and Trojans plan on meeting up and finishing off the meet, but no makeup date has been set yet.
