Girls’ basketball season begins on Friday night, and area teams have been getting into the groove with jamboree games all week long, including two in the Union coverage area, as both Mt. Pleasant and Cardinal hosted games on Monday and Tuesday night. Each game consisted of one half of basketball.
On Monday, Mt. Pleasant played host to an eight-team jamboree, which included three area squads.
Winfield-Mt. Union played Burlington tight through the first quarter, but faltered in the second and finished down 39-19.
Mt. Pleasant and Columbus went at it in the final game of the jamboree. The Panthers outscored the Wildcats 30-15.
Then, on Tuesday, Cardinal’s jamboree included six area teams, including two games that featured Union teams playing each other.
In the first game of the day, Fairfield flew past New London 52-4. The next two games saw Hillcrest Academy fall to Davis County, and Van Buren County falter 30-21 against Sigourney.
In the final game of the Cardinal jamboree, the Comets took down Pekin, 30-12.
