MP girls, Pekin boys win at Cardinal

ELDON — A handful of area track teams were in Eldon on Thursday night, as Cardinal hosted the 2025 Bob Gerard Relays. Two area teams came away with team wins, as the Mt. Pleasant girls and Pekin boys were both victorious.
On the girls’ side, Mt. Pleasant scored 197 points to win the meet by 74 over second-place Van Buren County. The Pekin boys beat out Mt. Pleasant by 13 points.
The Panther girls had an incredible 12 wins on the day, including five in relay events. The Panthers’ 4X100 team, 4X200 team, 4X400 team, sprint medley and shuttle hurdle relay team all won.
Individually, Mt. Pleasant got wins from Alex Scott in the 100-meter dash, Alexis Wagner in the 400, Quintrie Lee in the 3000, Taylor Williamson in the 100-meter hurdles, and Linzy Striegel in the 400-meter hurdles.
In the field, Izzy Sloat won the long jump, and Ella Ensminger took the shot put.
The Pekin girls had four wins, including two in the field. Kayse Miller was the high jump champion, and Anna Hadley won the discus throw.
Van Buren County’s Rylee Phillips won the 1500-meter run, while Addison Adam of Cardinal took the 200-meter dash.
On the boys’ side, Pekin had 10 wins, including five in the relays. Pekin won the 4X100, the 4X200, the 4X800, the sprint medley and the shuttle hurdle relay.
Pekin’s Lane Fariss won the 1600-meter run, while Cole Millikin won the 3200. Riley Smith took first in the 400-meter hurdles.
In the field, Pekin’s Caden Bender won two events, taking both the shot put and discus throws.
Mt. Pleasant had two wins on the boys’ side. Griffen Jones won the 100-meter dash, and Kaden Schadt took first in the high jump.
Van Buren County’s Lincoln Bainbridge won both the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash. Kayden Simmons took first in the 110-meter high hurdles, and both the Warrior 4X400 team and distance medley team was victorious.
For the Cardinal boys, greyson Johnson took the top spot in the long jump.
