WAPELLO — The Mt. Pleasant bats caught fire at the end of the Panther softball team’s road game at Wapello on Wednesday night. Mt. Pleasant scored six runs in the final three innings to run past the arrows 8-3 for a non-conference victory.
Mt. Pleasant led 2-0 early, but Wapello chipped back and eventually tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth. From that point on, however, it was all Panthers.
Mt. Pleasant scored one run in the top of the sixth to retake the lead, at 4-3. Then, after holding Wapello silent in the bottom half of the sixth, the Panthers scored four in the seventh to pull away.
Jersey Beachy played long ball for the first time this year, going 2-for-3 with a homer, a double and two RBIs to lead the Panthers’ offense.
Addison Clark went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Jolynn Martin was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Keagyn Coleman and Saige Curhcett each had an RBI.
Jolynn Martin threw all seven innings for the Panthers. She gave up three earned runs on 10 hits and two walks, while striking out four batters.
The win moved Mt. Pleasant to 2-6 overall. It was the first Panther win over Wapello since 2018.
