MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant-Fairfield girls soccer rivalry was renewed at East Lake Park on Monday. The Panthers knocked off the Trojans 7-0.
The Panthers scored five goals in the first half. Included in that were two from Aurora Hummell and two from Sarai Sanches.
“I just want the ball in the net,” said Hummell. “It's satisfying to get it in there.”
Hummell’s second goal was a wild bouncer, which she redirected past the keeper to, at the time, put the Panthers up 4-0.
“I thought it was going to go over or I was going to miss it,” Hummell said. “I thought I was going to kick somebody, not the ball. I was just glad I didn't hurt anyone.”
Hailey Parrott scored two goals in the game, one in the first half and one in the second. Charice Auwerda put in one.
Mattisyn Wenke had two assists on the day. Bizzie Richtman, Addison Peck, Parrott, Spinner and Auwerda each had finished with one.
“We played really well,” said Mt. Pleasant head coach Chris Davis. “We kept the ball wide, Matti getting those crosses in, and we had people on the back post to finish.”
Mt. Pleasant had 22 shots on the day, 12 on goal.
“We have a very young team, and it's kind of hard right now, because they're kind of learning during games,” said Fairfield head coach Alex Cardenas. “The second half was just a night and day difference.”
Mt. Pleasant is now 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the SEC. Fairfield is 0-7 overall and 0-6 in league play.
