The Mt. Pleasant volleyball team had a tall task in 2022, trying to defend its two-straight Southeast Conference titles after losing big names from the previous year. The Panthers stuck in the race during the regular season before a tough time in the tournament.
The 2022 Panther volleyball team went 9-27 overall and 3-7 in the conference. That included a tough 1-4 stretch in the SEC tournament, as the Panthers fell to last place in the league.
Mt. Pleasant did show out in the postseason. The Panthers upset Burlington on the road in the Class 4A Region 8 opener before falling to a razor sharp Oskaloosa team in the next round.
The 2023 Panthers will be led by a new coach, as Logan Wall takes over the program. Coach Wall will have a good portion of last year’s talent back.
The Panthers will bring back their Top-2 killers from last year, as Emma Star (138 kills) enters her senior year, and Alex Scott (116 kills) moves into her sophomore campaign. Also returning is Addison Clark (85) Kills, who finished third on the team in kills last year
Mt. Pleasant will have to replace graduated senior Tristian Shull at the setter position. Kiera Frazier had 76 assists last season.
The Panthers will have a big challenge in replacing the dig numbers lost from last year, as their Top-3 were all seniors. Scott, Clark and Frazier tallied 151, 138 and 109 digs respectively last fall.
