BURLINGTON — The Mt. Pleasant softball team earned a split in Monday night’s doubleheader against Burlington. The Panthers dropped the opener 8-1 but bounced back in the nightcap with a 4-0 shutout victory.
In game one, Mt. Pleasant managed eight hits but struggled to convert them into runs. Izzy Sloat and Linzy Striegel each collected two hits, with Striegel driving in the team’s only run.
Keagyn Coleman, Saige Burchett, Paityn Ensminger, and Chaley Cook also contributed hits. Cook pitched a complete game, allowing 10 hits and eight runs, five of them earned.
The second game told a different story. Despite tallying just five hits, the Panthers made them count. Coleman and Burchett both recorded two hits and an RBI apiece. Cook added another hit, and Striegel chipped in with an RBI.
Mt. Pleasant was back in action Tuesday night, picking up a high scoring 17-10 win over West Burlington-Notre Dame.
Following the victories, the Panthers now sit at 5-27 on the season.
The Panthers will post Davis County on Wednesday.
