Maharishi girls stop Panthers’ unbeaten week

MT. PLEASANT — It was a busy couple of days for the Mt. Pleasant tennis teams on Monday and Tuesday. The Panther boys went 2-0, and the Panther girls were 1-1, with the lone loss coming to Maharishi.
The Mt. Pleasant boys welcomed in Southeast Conference rival Fort Madison on Monday. The Panthers rolled 9-0 to grab a league win.
Phoenix Watson won 8-2 in the No. 1 singles match. Gavin Ross won the No. 2 match 8-3. Sawyer Fulton won the No. 3 match 8-1.
The closest singles match of the day was a 9-8(7-5) victory for Dane Cook at No. 4. Zach Johnson took the No. 5 match 8-5, and Lou Schimmelpfennig took the No. 6 match, 8-3.
The No. 1 doubles team of Watson and Schimmelpfennig led the doubles run with an 8-5 win. Ross and Johnson won the No. 2 match 8-0, and Fulton and Cook won the No. 3 match 8-6.
The next day against Davis County, the Panthers coasted to an 7-2 win. Mt. Pleasant took five of the six singles wins in the match.
Watson took the No. 1 match 8-4. Ross won 8-3 at No. 2. Fulton won 8-4 at No. 3. Johnson won the No. 5 match 8-3, and Schimmelpfennig won the No. 6 match 8-0.
Mt. Pleasant had two wins in doubles. Ross and Fulton won 8-2 in the No. 2 doubles match, and Johnson and Cook pulled off a 9-7 win in the No. 3 match.
The Panther girls dominated at Fort Madison, winning 8-0. That included an 8-0 victory for Jana Isanta Villa at No. 1 singles.
Eliana Situmeang won 8-3 in the No. 2 match. Mary Kate Peterson won the No. 3 match 8-5. Bethany Drury won the No. 4 match 8-0. Victoria Smith win 8-3 at No. 5, and Audrey Richmond took the No. 6 match, 9-7.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of Vila and Situmeang won 8-0. The No. 2 team of Drury and Richmond won 8-1, and Peterson and Smith won the No. 3 match 9-8 (7-4).
On Tuesday, the Panther girls fell 7-2 against Maharishi. The only wins on the day were a thrilling 8-5 comeback win for Vila over Ishita Mukadam, and an 8-5 doubles win for Vila and Situmeang against Ishita Mukadam and Poojita Mukadam.
Poojita Mukadam beat Situmeang 8-0 in the No. 2 singles match. Ria Altynska-Ross beat Peterson 8-0 in the No. 3 match. Daira Valls Blazquez beat Drury 8-3 in the No. 4 match. Aparajita Kalra defeated Smith 8-1 in the No. 5 mathc, and Joyce (Jiusi) Wang beat Richmond 8-1 at No. 6.
Maharishi had two wins in doubles. Altynska-Ross and Kalra defeated Drury and Richmond 8-2, and Blazquez and Wang beat Peterson and Smith 8-2.
