MP wrestlers take third in Iowa City

IOWA CITY -- The Mt. Pleasant wrestling team took part in the Iowa City Regina Invitational on Saturday, and took third place. The Panthers ended the night with 124.5 points. Solon won the team title with 236.5 points.
The Panthers had three second-place finishers on the night. Nate Wallace picked up second place at 145 lbs. James DeMeyer was second at 170 lbs., and Zach Beason took the silver at 220 lbs.
Wallace had two pins in his bracket. He pinned Wesley Eisenbacher of Davenport West in 1:03 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Wallace pinned Pekin's Cael Baker. Wallace was taken down in the first place match via 2-0 decision against Williamsburg's Garrett Jensen.
James DeMeyer defeated Pekin's Tanner Bainbridge on a disqualification in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, DeMeyer outlasted Gage Hzen-Fabor of Williamsburg, beating him in the first period of sudden victory, 3-1.
Jax Flynn of Solon ended DeMeyer's run in the first place match. Flynn pinned DeMeyer in 3:59.
Beason had one of the quickest pins of the day in the 220 lbs. quarterfinals. He pinned Pekin's Kaden Pollock in 23 seconds. In the semifinals, Beason pinned Williamsburg's Billy Grout in 2:12. Mike Hoyle of Solon defeated Beason on an 11-4 decision in the first place match.
The Panthers had one more top-three finish on the day. Carson Coleman picked up a third-place finish at 113 lbs.
Mt. Pleasant will be back in tournament action on Thursday, Dec. 20. They'll head to Burlington for a tournament at Notre Dame.
