Mt. Pleasant Christian School has started a volleyball program, and the girls travel to Cedar Rapids for their first-ever competition tomorrow night, Sept. 23.
?There was so much interest in PE and so much potential talent,? said coach Andrea Lunsford, who teaches physical education and music at the school.
She came up with the idea for the team and volunteered to coach.
The team is made up of 10 girls, ranging from sixth to 12th grade. They have been practicing in preparation for their first competition, a triangular against the JV Cedar Rapids Comets and against Metro High School, which is also in Cedar Rapids, at 5 p.m.
?We?re definitely prepared ? we?ve been working a lot on this,? Lunsford said. ?But I think it will be an eye-opener, as far as what a game is like.?
The Knights will play their first home game on Sept. 30 against Great River.
?We didn?t join a conference, but we hope in the future to be part of one,? Lunsford said. ?For now, we?re getting a feel for it and playing other Christian schools in the area that are also just starting.?
