Mt. P match delayed, Ottumwa slayed

Thursday, the Trojan boys' tennis team had their match at Mt. Pleasant delayed indefinitely after rain prevented the result of the final five pairings with the Panthers holding a 3-1 advantage through four finalized singles matches.
'Congratulations to Blake Holden,” said head coach Bill Sheppard of the sophomore's come-from-behind 9-7 victory over David Nguyen of Mt. P.
No. 1 A.J. Greiner fell 1-8 and Noel Peterson and Will Sheppard, the teams' No. 2 and No. 3 singles players, respectively, both lost 6-8 after pushing their opponents to the brink.
No. 5 Brian Parcel and No. 6 Michael Holt were unable to complete their matches and none of the doubles were played.
Ottumwa
FHS traveled to the river city and defeated the Bulldogs 5-4 with the decisive match coming in the No. 3 doubles duel after Brian Parcel and Michael Holt came back from a 6-0 loss in their opening set to win 6-4, 12-10 in their second and third sets, respectively.
Senior Will Sheppard also played, 'one of the finest matches of his career” according to his father/coach Bill who noted that his son also lost his first set before coming back to capture victory in the second set 6-3 before claiming the match in the tiebreaker, 12-10.
Five of the nine matches went to tiebreakers with FHS claiming three to edge their non-conference rivals.

No. 2 Noel Peterson won 4-6, 6-4, 10-4 over Henry Bishop
No. 3 Will Sheppard won 4-6, 6-3, 12-10 over Nick McElroy
No. 4 Blake Holden won 6-3, 6-2 over Griffin Dains
No. 5 Brian Parcel lost 1-6, 6-4, 4-10 to David Halvorson
No. 6 Michael Holt lost 6-3, 4-6, 7-10 to Peyton Johnson

No. 1 Greiner/Sheppard lost 3-6, 2-6 to Vasconez/Bishop
No. 2 Peterson/Holden won 6-4, 6-4 over Dains/Halvorson
