MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant and Washington boys golf teams kicked of the 2021 Southeast Conference slate side-by-side on Thursday, as the hosting Panthers and visiting Demons joined Keokuk for a triangular.
Mt. Pleasant dominated on its own home course. The Panthers shot a 163, beating Washington by 12 strokes. The Demons took second, at 175, and Keokuk finished at a distance third, with a 210.
The Panthers were led by the lone senior on the team. One day after his commitment to play at Iowa Wesleyan University, Brevin Wilson shot a 34 to lead the Panthers and win individual medalist honors.
Panther sophomore Nick Matheney was the second Mt. Pleasant golfer under 40, shooting a 3. Reece Kempker finished at 42. Reece Coffman and Ian Hake each shot a 49, and Nate Dismang ended the day at 51.
Washington freshman Roman Roth took second in just his first meet against SEC competition. He finished three strokes back of the lead, at 37.
The Demons had four golfers clumped at 46 and 47. John Brohaska, Grant Sobaski and Teague Mayer all finished at 46, and Isaac Vetter was one stroke back of that group, with a 47.
Luke Beenblossom rounded out the Demon golfers with a 55.
