MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant Panther volleyball will look somewhat different during the 2023-24 season.
A great majority of the Panthers talent will be returning this fall, but a few key pieces will be missing as well.
The positive for the Panthers is that they bring back their kills leader, but at the same time lose their leading setter and digger.
Offensively, the Panthers bring back a lot.
Leading hitter Emma Starr makes a comeback. Starr led the Panthers with 138 kills in 2022-23. Alex Scott also returns. Scott finished with 116 kills last season.
Mt. Pleasant does lose Andrea Lopreato who was the most efficient hitter for the Panthers. Lopreato had 110 kills and an efficiency of .143.
Addison Clark comes back. Clark tallied 85 kills a year ago.
A season ago, graduate Tristian Shull led was the Panthers main setter. Shull finished with 355 assists.
The next highest was then sophomore Kiera Frazier. She finished with 76 assists. Look for her to make an impact in that roll this fall.
Defensively the Panthers will be missing both Shull and Lopreato.
Shull finished with a team-high 291 digs a year ago, followed by fellow graduate Jersey Beachy, who finished with 241.
Lopreato was the next highest with 164 digs, but she also tallied a team-best 42 blocks as well.
Scott, Clark, Frazier, Starr and Addison Peck followed and all return.
In the serving department, Shull led with 313 successful serves along with 23 aces.
Clark followed with 23 aces as well and 278 successful serves.
Beachy and Lopreato both had 19 aces, while returners Scott and Frazier both tallied double digit aces.
Mt. Pleasant will look to improve heading into the 2023-24 season as it finished 9-27 a year ago.
