Mt. Pleasant and Pekin top Falcon Relays
Mt. Pleasant, Fairfield, Washington, Pekin, WACO, Winfield-Mt. Union, New London all compete

WEST BURLINGTON — West Burlington played host to yet another high school track meet this week, this time around hosting an abundance of high school girls teams, marking the beginning of the outdoor girls track and field season.
Union coverage area teams showed out in the events with each of the seven picking up at least a top two finish.
Mt. Pleasant, Fairfield and Washington all squared off in Class A. By the end of the windy night, it would be the Panthers at the top of the leader boards, followed by Fairfield in third and Washington in fourth.
The Panthers Abby Blint was great in the distance events, finishing a two-time winner. Bint got wins in both the 800-meter run and 3000-meter run. She finished with times of 2:46.47 and 12:12.19.
Jadan Brumbaugh shows yet again whys she’s a state champion shot putter winning with a throw of 46-01.00, over 10 feet better than the second place finisher.
Mt. Pleasant also grabbed another victory in the 4x100 shuttle hurdle relay. Jenna Gilmore, Allie Westercamp, Josie Gilmore and Kenna Lamm won with a top time of 1:13.56.
Courtney Raub, Andrea Lopreato, Mica Carter and Elsie Lange pulled out a victory for the Panthers in the 4x400 meter relay.
For Fairfield, Kelsey Pacha dominated the 100-meter hurdles. Pacha finished first with a time of 15.81, currently the best time in the state. Teammate Anna Dunlap finished in second.
Mallory Lyon was a winner for the Trojans in the 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 1:14.33.
The Trojans sprint and distance medley team performed well, with each finishing on top.
Kiya Robertson, Lyon, Pacha and Dunlap held off Mt. Pleasant for a win in the sprint medley, with a time of 1:57.22. Danielle Breen, Coty Engle, Addison Ferrel and Maddie Jones won the distance medley pretty handily with a time of 5:10.20.
Breen also secured a win for the Trojans in long jump with a leap of 15-00.50.
Washington’s sole win came in the 4x800 meter relay. Isabella Lujan, Abigail Kleese, Lauren Horak and Grace Voss won with a time of 11:36.21.
Pekin had an excellent day on the track, finishing with the highest overall score of any team.
Audrey Fariss won the 800-meter run with a 2:50.14 time. Lauren Derscheid was a winner in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:40.98. Brooke Sylvester’s 13:33.32 was a just under a minute better than the second place finisher.
In the 4x800, Fariss, Derscheid, Lauren Steigleder and Sarah Eubanks picked a win. Claire Roth, Lilly Reneker, Eubanks and Kayse Miller won the 4x200 with a 1:58.85.
The Panthers also got wins in both the sprint and distance medley. Roth, Emma Phillips, Reneker and Makenzie Dahlstrom won the sprint medley, running a 2:04.99. Derscheid, Fariss, Dahlstrom and Phillips ran a time of 4:54.83 for the top spot in the distance medley.
Kerrigan Pope swept the throwing events, winning shot put with a 35-11.00 and discus with a throw of 111-01.
WACO had one winner in the form of Zoey Dennler. Dennler won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:16.51.
Neither New London or Winfield-Mt. Union had a winner, but each had second place finishes.
The Tigers had one second place finish, while the Wolves had three.
