Mt. Pleasant baseball has 1-2 weekend
Panthers split games against Knoxville, fall to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont

MT. PLEASANT — The regular season is winding down for the area’s Class 3A baseball teams and Mt. Pleasant is closing out its regular season with a handful of nonconference games.
The Panthers played three nonconference games over the weekend. On Thursday, Mt. Pleasant split with Knoxville, falling 4-2 before winning 12-10. On Saturday, the Panthers dropped a road game at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 12-0 in five.
In Game 1 on Thursday, Mt. Pleasant collected just four hits to get to their two runs. Jack Johnson was 1-for-3 with a double. Chase Williamson was 1-for-2. Carter Amos and Zerek Venghaus each went 1-for-3, and Will Edeker was 0-for-2 with an RBI.
Edeker gave up just four runs (two earned) over 4 1/3 innings pitched but was tagged with the loss.
The Panthers rallied back from a 9-5 deficit to win Game 2. Chase Williamson had a big game, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Venghaus went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Jack Johnson went 1-for-3 with a triple.
Johnson picked up the win on the mound, throwing 2 1/3rds shutout innings in relief of starter Jake Ensminger.
Mt. Pleasant was held hitless at EBF on Saturday. Rockets’ junior Braxton Malloy pitched five innings and gave up no hits, although the Panthers did draw five walks.
Mt. Pleasant is now 7-23 with a game at Solon on Monday to close out the regular season.
