Mt. Pleasant baseball splits, softball swept in Keokuk
Panthers struggle in first Southeast Conference doubleheaders

KEOKUK — It wasn’t the ideal night for the Mt. Pleasant baseball and softball teams in their Southeast Conference openers at Keokuk Thursday. The Panther baseball team split, winning 4-3 before getting walked off for a 7-6 loss. The softball team was swept 12-4 and 14-2.
The Panther baseball team had to grind out a one-run win in Game 1. Carter Amos went 3-for-3 with an RBI, to lead the squad, and Will Edeker finished 2-for-2 with an RBI of his own.
Jack Johnson earned the win on the mound after throwing six innings.
In Game 2, Mt. Pleasant rallied from down 6-4 to score a run in the sixth and a run in the seventh to tie the game before the Chiefs walked it off in the seventh. Colton Hutson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Will Edeker was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Cooper Keldgord and Chase Williamson each had two hits and an RBI.
The Mt. Pleasant softball team led Game 1, 3-0 after the Panthers’ first at-bat. Keokuk scored two in the first, eight in the second and two in the third to bust the game open, and then ran away with Game 2.
Grace Kelley went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run in Game 1. Savana Walls was 2-for-4.
Mt. Pleasant softball fell 15-0 against Davis County in a home game on Friday. Coach Mike Beason said his young team still is trying to learn as much as they can before a big stretch this week where they will play Fairfield, New London, Burlington and West Burlington.
Mt. Pleasant baseball also dropped a pair of games to Muscatine on Saturday, falling 15-0 and 14-2. They are now 1-4. The softball team is 0-8.
