Mt. Pleasant baseball swept by Knights in season-opener
DAVENPORT ? Mt. Pleasant baseball opened its season with a doubleheader on the road Tuesday night, dropping both games to Davenport Assumption.
The Panthers came up just short in the opener, falling by a score of 5-4. In the nightcap, Justin Dilks did some damage at the plate, but it wasn?t enough to overcome the Knights? seven-run third inning, and the Panthers lost game two, 11-4.

DAVENPORT ? Mt. Pleasant baseball opened its season with a doubleheader on the road Tuesday night, dropping both games to Davenport Assumption.
The Panthers came up just short in the opener, falling by a score of 5-4. In the nightcap, Justin Dilks did some damage at the plate, but it wasn?t enough to overcome the Knights? seven-run third inning, and the Panthers lost game two, 11-4.
In game one, the Knights were the first on the board with a run in the third, and they added three more in the fifth.
The Panthers made things interesting, scoring all four of their runs in the sixth to tie the game, but Assumption manufactured one more in the bottom of the inning to reclaim the lead for good.
Colton Schinstock went 1-for-3 for the Panthers with two runs batted in, and Dustin Amos also went 1-for-3 with a double in the opener.
Tyler Pace had a hit and an RBI; the Panthers? other two hits came from Alex O?Donnell and Justin Chalupa. Jacob Dilks had an RBI.
On the mound, Connor Shull started for the Panthers, going three innings and giving up five hits, two walks and one earned run.
Jordan Meyer took over for 1 1/3 innings, allowing three hits, one walk and three unearned runs.
Alex Moore pitched the last 1 2/3 innings, taking the loss. He gave up one hit, one walk and one earned run.
In the nightcap, it was Mt. Pleasant that took an early lead, scoring the first run of the game in the first inning. Tony Cristoforo walked, took second on a wild pitch, went to third on a hit by Carson Remick and scored when Justin Dilks singled.
However, the Knights went on to tie the score with a run in the second, add seven more in the third for a big lead, and tack on another three runs in the fourth.
The Panthers made up some ground in the fifth inning on a three-run homer by Justin Dilks, but they couldn?t close the gap.
Justin Dilks finished the game 2-for-2 with a walk and four runs knocked in. Jacob Dilks was 1-for-1; Carson Remick and Brennen Welcher were each 1-for-3.
Dustin Amos took the loss on the mound; he went three innings, giving up six hits, three walks and eight runs (five earned). He struck out one.
Jacob Dilks pitched two innings, allowed two hits, two walks and three runs (none earned). He fanned five. Remick went one inning and gave up one hit.
The Panthers will play again on Saturday in the Waterloo Tournament.
Next week, they travel to Eddyville-Blakesburg on Tuesday before hosting Mid-Prairie at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday in their home opener at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.
