Mt. Pleasant boys blister Burlington, girls lose

The Mt. Pleasant tennis teams took on Burlington in their first ever Southeast Conference games against the Grayhounds on Thursday.
The Panther boys picked up an SEC road win, defeating Burlington 7-2. The girls fell 8-1 at home.
Mt. Pleasant’s boys team won all six singles matches, but they had to work for the top two. David Nguyen won the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 2-6, 1-0(8), and Jack Schimmelpfennig took the No. 2 match 5-7, 6-2, 1-0(8).
Owen Vansickel took the No. 3 match 6-3, 7-5. Levi Graber won 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4 match. Lincoln Henriksen took the No. 5 match 6-3, 6-3, and Jake Ensminger won the No. 6 match 7-6(5), 6-2.
Nguyen and Brian Huynh had Mt. Pleasant’s only doubles win, taking the No. 2 match 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10). The No. 1 team of Schimmelpfennig and Vansickel lost 6-2, 6-4, and the No. 3 duo of Henriksen and Ensminger lsot 2-6, 7-6(4), 1-0(7).
The Panther girls had just one win on the day, but it came in the No. 1 singles match. Savana Walls won her match 8-3 to spoil a potential Grayhound shut out.
Maggie Fitzpatrick lost the No. 2 match 8-3. No. 3 Gisele Fajardo and No. 4 Morelia Elias both lost 8-1. Melanie Olivas dropped the No. 4 match 8-3, and Jenny Dykstra fell 8-2 in the No. 6 match.
The Mt. Pleasant girls were swept in doubles. Wells and Fajardo lost the top match 8-4. Fitzpatrick and Elias fell 8-2 in the No. 2 match, and Olivas and Dykstra were beaten 8-0 in the No. 3 match.
