Mt. Pleasant boys' track overtakes records, cut times at Burlington

More records fell and more season best times were posted Tuesday evening at the Carl C. Johannsen Relays in Burlington for the Mt. Pleasant boys' track team.

The 4x800 meter and shuttle hurdle relay teams each posted times fast enough to break into the all-time records for Mt. Pleasant en route to second place finishes at the meet. The 4x800 team of Tommy Thorne, Eric Hahn, Scott Hahn and Tylor Hoyle landed in ninth all-time with a season best time of 8:13.34, surpassing the previous time of 8:17.61 set in 1984. The shuttle hurdle team (Courtt Andrew, Kendall Porth, Ryan Shull, Brandon Moorman) jumped into seventh all-time with a 62.25 second mark, also a season best time.

Coach Scot Lamm noted that the 4x800 team's time has been good enough to qualify for the Drake Relays every year except for 2005.

Also posting season bests were Zach May in the 3,200 meter, seventh with a time of 10:44.06, the 4x200 meter relay team (Demetrius Goode, Ryan Shull, S. Hahn, Tanner Courtney), fourth in 1:35.36, and the 4x400 meter relay team (Dalton Conrad, Justis Wellington, Thorne, Hoyle), second in 3:32.21.

Leonard Wester won the discus with a throw of 144'-6", along with finishing second in the shot put after a throw of 50'-8". Brayton Meeker's shot put throw of 47'-10" put him in third place for the event.

Moorman was third in the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 15.59 seconds.

Mt. Pleasant has over a week off before its next track meet, the Denny White Relays, in Mt. Pleasant on Thursday, April 14. The meet starts at 5 p.m.
