Mt. Pleasant caps off homecoming against Mount Vernon
Panthers look for first win against No. 8 Mustangs

MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant football is back in action on Friday night.
The Panthers (0-4) are set to host Class 3A No. 8 Mount Vernon (3-1) at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.
It’s been a tough road for the Panthers as they are still searching for their first victory of the season.
It doesn’t get any easier Friday evening against the 2022 state runners-up.
Mt. Pleasant enters this matchup most recently off a loss to Burlington, 42-7.
Meanwhile, Mount Vernon, who was previously No. 2 is coming off its first loss of the season, a 37-20 loss to No. 9 Solon.
Coming in, Payton Walker leads the Panthers under center.
Walker has thrown for 208 yards and one touchdown.
Cooper Coleman also had 89 yards passing with one touchdown.
On the ground, Jurha Turner leads with 207 yards. Walker follows with 200 yards and three scores.
On the receiving end, Turner has four receptions for 102 yards. Payson Coleman comes in leading in catches. Coleman has six receptions for 98 yards.
Defensively, Walker leads with 33 total tackles and 2.5 tackles for a loss. Carson Andreasen is in second with 19.5 tackles and 2.5 tackles for a loss as well.
Kellen Kohorst lead in tackles for a loss with three.
For Mount Vernon, Joey Rhomberg lead with 964 yards through the air and eight touchdowns.
Jackson Hird has 209 yards on the ground, followed by Cooper Hird with 122. Rhomberg lead with four scores in the run game.
Evan Brase has 25 catches and 480 yards to lead the Mustangs in receiving. Ethan Wood has 189 yard and 12 catches.
On the defensive end, Jackson Jaspers comes in with 29 tackles and 7.5 for a loss.
Mt. Pleasant and Mount Vernon will begin at 7:30 on Friday night.
