CEDAR RAPIDS — Mt. Pleasant boys basketball opened its season on Tuesday night with a trip to Cedar Rapids Washington.
The Panthers hung with the Warriors and took a lead into the fourth quarter, but they couldn’t hold it in what ended as a 59-55 loss.
Mt. Pleasant trailed by just three after one quarter of action, 16-13 and then six at the half, 34-28.
However, some hot shooting from the Panthers gave them an advantage through three.
In all, Mt. Pleasant buried 10 beyond the three point line. The Panthers also managed to knock down 7-of-9 from the foul line through the first three quarters.
But charity stripe struggles crept in through the fourth and the Warriors took advantage. After connecting on over 77% of their foul shots prior, the Panthers hit 4-of-11 in the fourth.
Cedar Rapids Washington went on to outscore Mt. Pleasant 14-9 in the final frame.
Ian Reid led the Panthers with 19 points on the night, hitting 4-of-7 from deep. Noah Lange shot 62.5% from the field for a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Ryan Helling added eight points, Aiden Humble finished with six and Brody Clark five.
The Panther boys will be back in action on Friday when they open conference play against Burlington.
