MOUNT VERNON — Mt. Pleasant faced it toughest test of the season on Friday night when it made the trip to Mount Vernon to face the No. 5 ranked Mustangs.
The shorthanded Panthers (2-3) struggled to contain the high powered Mustangs as they fell 59-0.
The Mustangs (4-1) set the tone early, as Jase Jaspers took the Panthers opening punt all the way down to the one yard line.
After a one yard punch in from Kellen Haverback made it an eventual 8-0 ball game, the Mustangs only tacked it on from then on out.
Mount Vernon went on to score 24 points in the first quarter alone and followed with 14 more in the second to make it 38-0 at the half.
The Mustangs added 14 more in the third and scored seven more in the fourth to put a seal on it.
Cooper Coleman threw for 34 yards in the loss.
Ramzy Davis finished with 25 yards on the ground, while Max Sloat had 22 yards.
Sloat also caught three passes for 39 yards.
The Panthers will be back in action on Friday when they host Washington (4-1) for their homecoming.
