Mt. Pleasant drops pair at Burlington

BURLINGTON — The Mt. Pleasant softball team couldn’t deal any damage to the first-place Burlington Grayhounds on Monday. The Panthers fell to the Southeast Conference leaders 10-0 in five innings and 18-0 in three.
Starting pitcher Madison Helling quieted the Burlington bats through three innings in the first game. The game stayed 0-0 until the bottom of the fourth when the Grayhounds sent four runners to the plate.
With the game at 4-0 entering the fifth, the Mt. Pleasant offense was shut out in the top of the inning, and Burlington scored six in the bottom half to end the game.
Mt. Pleasant had four hits in Game 1, all singles. Eva Rounceville, Emma Starr, Jersey Beachy and Jayden Housh all went 1-for-2.
Burlington wasn’t messing around in Game 2, scoring eight runs in the first inning and 10 in the second. Starr, Jordan Crooks and Bethany Drury all saw time in the circle for Mt. Pleasant.
Grace Kelley went 1-for-2 with a single and two stolen bases to lead the Panther offense.
Mt. Pleasant fell to 1-27 overall and 0-15 in SEC play.
Keota holds on for first win
MARENGO — The Keota Eagles are in the win column after a 10-7 win at Iowa Valley.
Keota led 6-0 after two innings and 9-1 after the top of the fifth. Iowa Valley put together a fierce comeback effort, but the Eagles held on for their first victory of the season.
Kimberly Clarahan went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs to lead the Eagles. Makenzie Jackson was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Taylor Kindred went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, and both Nicole Clarahan and Macie McDonald knocked in a run.
Macie McDonald threw all seven innings for the Eagles, giving up seven runs (four earned) on 12 hits.
Mid-Priaire sweeps
TIPTON — It was all Mid-Prairie in a doubleheader at Tipton. The Golden Hawks rolled the Tigers 12-1 in five innings in Game 1, and 6-0 in Game 2.
Katelyn Schneider went 2-for-2 with a triple and four RBIs to lead the Golden Hawks in Game 1. Dawsyn Miller had two RBIs, and Myah Lugar dominated in the circle, giving up one earned run on two hits and one walk.
Schneider was 2-for-4 in Game 2. Lugar, Landry Pacha and Gabi Robertson each knocked in a run, and Miller threw a three-hit shutout in the circle.
Van Buren County rolls
WEST POINT — The Van Buren County offense, ranked No. 15 in 2A, was on fire in Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division game against Holy Trinity. The Warriors dominated the Crusaders, 17-3.
Annabell Cormier led the way for Van Buren, going 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Ivy Davidson was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Ally Cambell went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double at the plate. In the pitcher’s circle, she gave up just three earned runs over five innings to earn a complete game victory.
Pekin nips Lone Tree
LONE TREE — Pekin scored two runs in the sixth inning to steal a 3-2 win from Lone Tree in SEISC North Division action. The Panthers trailed 2-1 after the first inning and the game was scoreless until the sixth.
Erika Coleman was strong in the circle, giving up two earned runs on four hits and six walks, while striking out two batters. Kendyl Noel was 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs to lead the offense.
Hillcrest falters
KALONA — A tough Wapello squad went on the road to beat Hillcrest Academy 16-3.
Wapello held a 9-0 lead after four innings, threatening to mercy rule the Ravens early, but Hillcrest rallied for three in the fifth to cut the advantage to 9-3. Wapello scored two in the sixth and five in the seventh.
