OTTUMWA — Things didn’t turn out the way Mt. Pleasant volleyball would have liked last week in Ottumwa, but the Panther’s got their first win at the Grinnell Tournament over the weekend.
It was a rough Thursday night for the Panthers as they fell in four straight sets to both Ottumwa and Davis County.
The Panthers matched up with Ottumwa to start.
Mt. Pleasant was slow out of the gate, eventually dropping the first set 25-13.
In the second set; however, the Panthers found their stride, but couldn’t get over the hump losing a close 26-24 battle.
Against Davis County, it was much of the same.
The Panthers were topped in a pair of sets, 25-13 and 25-12.
Over the weekend, Mt. Pleasant faced off with Iowa Valley to start tournament play.
They didn’t miss a beat as they downed the Tigers in two sets, 21-11 and 21-16 for their first victory of the season.
The following two matches for Mt. Pleasant were both losses. The Panthers lost to Carlisle in two sets, 21-5 and 21-18, before falling in three sets in a rematch against Iowa Valley, 17-21, 21-17 and 15-12.
Mt. Pleasant, now 1-6, will take on Fairfield (1-2) on Tuesday at home. The match is set to begin at 7:15 p.m.
