The quest for the state tournament begins on Saturday in Fairfield for the Mt. Pleasant, Fairfield and Maharishi girls tennis teams.
All three are in the Class 1A Region 4 bracket, but only one can make the state tournament.
Mt. Pleasant (2-8) will face off against Davenport Assumption (13-5).
Fairfield (2-8) will open the bracket against Keokuk (5-5).
The winners in each of the two matches will take on each other in the semifinals Saturday afternoon, setting up the possibility of a Southeast Conference clash.
Games on this end of the bracket will be played at Fairfield Middle School.
Undefeated Maharishi (10-0) will battle with Burlington Notre Dame (0-8) in the first round.
Should the Pioneers win, they will face either Davis County (8-5) or Fort Madison (5-3) for a trip to the regional championship.
Maharishi’s games will take place at the Punj Tennis Center in Fairfield.
