Marion sneaks past Panther boys in non-conference game

MARION — Mt. Pleasant nearly turned its five-game boys basketball winning streak to six in a road trip to Marion on Monday night, but in the end, the Panthers couldn’t quite keep the magic alive, falling 55-51.
After a 14-14 first quarter, Mt. Pleasant was down 25-23 at the break.
Mt. Pleasant had its worst defensive quarter in the third, as Marion went up 42-35 after three quarters.
Isaiah Lange led the Panther boys with 16 points and nine rebounds. Ryan Helling scored 11 points. Noah Lange finished with eight points and nine rebounds. Grayson Lowery scored eight. Brody Clark had five, and Aiden Humble chipped in three.
It was the Panthers’ first game against former star Christian Stacy, who scored 13 points for the Wolves. Stacy, a senior, played for Mt. Pleasant as a freshman and a sophomore.
With the loss, the Mt. Pleasant boys fell to 8-8 overall. Mt. Pleasant is 4-4 in the Southeast Conference with a game at first-place Keokuk (14-3, 8-0) on Friday night.
