KNOXVILLE — Mt. Pleasant certainly made undefeated and top-ranked Knoxville work on Monday night when the vising Panthers went into the hosting Panthers’ house to try to pull of a major Class 3A Substate 4 upset, but in the end, it wasn’t to be.
After a promising first quarter for Mt. Pleasant, Knoxville settled down and proved why they earned the top seed in the substate, knocking off Mt. Pleasant 61-39 in the quarterfinals.
Mt. Pleasant led after one quarter, as freshman Ryan Helling nailed a 3-pointer before the buzzer to put the visiting Panthers up 16-14. Mt. Pleasant was only down by four points at halftime, but Knoxville dominated the third quarter, taking it 22-4.
Two freshmen lead Mt. Pleasant in a losing effort. Helling finished with 10 points, and Isaiah Lange had nine.
Mt. Pleasant finished the year 2-20. The Panthers should have plenty of promise going into next season, as the team can bring back the entire active roster after spending the vast majority of the year with no seniors.
