CEDAR RAPIDS — The Mt. Pleasant baseball team had its hands full with No. 8 Marion in the Class 3A Substate 5 quarterfinals on Friday night, and the Wolves proved to be too much for the visiting Panthers to handle.
Marion rattled the Panthers on both sides of the ball. The Wolves won 13-1 in five innings to advance to the substate semifinals.
The Panthers looked good early, scoring a run in the first inning and holding Marion scoreless in the Wolves’ first at bat, but the rest of the night was all Marion.
The Wolves scored five runs in the second to take a 5-1 lead. They added four in the third and six in the fourth to end the game in five innings.
The Panthers could only get three hits off of Marion sophomore Payton Hodges, who earned the win for the Wolves.
Mt. Pleasant ended the season 9-19. The Panthers improved their record from last year by two wins.
