MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant girls basketball struggled to keep up with a high powered Pella offense in its season opener on Tuesday night at home.
While the Dutch scored early and often, the Panthers struggled to find their offense in the 57-16 non-conference loss.
Pella put together its most efficient basketball of the night in the opening quarter.
The Dutch dropped in a quarter high 24 points in the first frame, while giving up just two to the Panthers.
For Mt. Pleasant, the scoring woes continued through the rest of the contest.
The Panthers scored just two more points the rest of the first half, while the Dutch added 15 more to their total through that span to make it 39-4 at the half.
Mt. Pleasant found a rhythm out of the break, outscoring Pella 10-9 in the third, but the Panthers were held to just two points once again in the fourth.
Kynlee White scored a team-high nine points. Myah Starr scored three points. Paityn Ensminger and Abigail Shelangoski each scored two.
With the loss, the Panthers open the season 0-1. They will be back in action on Monday, Dec. 2 against Notre Dame at home.
