Mt. Pleasant finishes strong on the mats against Fort Madison
Panthers win eight of 14 matches in Southeast Conference dual against Bloodhounds

MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant’s Southeast Conference dual against Fort Madison on Thursday night didn’t start out so hot, but the Panthers put together some dominant performances through the final seven matches to take the conference bout 47-33.
Fort Madison jumped out to an early advantage against Mt. Pleasant.
Across the first six matches in the head-to-head, the Bloodhounds came out on top in five of six giving themselves a 27-6 lead.
The one win through that span came from Payton Walker at 190. Walker took care of business over the Bloodhound’s Ren Watson, pinning his way to victory in two minutes and 57 seconds.
Everything shifted following a forfeit in the Panther’s favor at 106. Fort Madison only won one more match the rest of the night.
The Panthers went on to win seven of the final eight matches to take the SEC meet win.
Landon Beckler (113), Jefferson Avalos Ramirez (132), Keegan Birdsell (144) and Ramzy Davis (150) were all winners by fall.
Cruz Aguilar (120) earned a tech fall victory 17-0 over Fort Madison’s Justice Lightfoot. Lane Beckler picked up a victory by forfeit at 126 as well.
The Panthers girls wrestled as well, but fell to the Bloodhounds 48-18. Mt. Pleasant’s Quintrie Lee (105) and Paris Phosy (115) both picked up pins. Olivia Gordy (235) grabbed a forfeit victory as well.
